A nice article on using the CornerFix to correct for color shifts when using a Voigtländer Ultra Wide Heliar 12mm/5.6 on a Sony NEX-7: Sony NEX-7 and the use of legacy ultra wide lenses

I wrote a blog post about a month ago that talked about the state of play with support for raw images in iPhoto on the iPad. Something that's come up regularly since then in feedback from readers is the question of what exactly "supports raw images" actually means. This isn't really as regards iPhoto, which is very clear on what it does and doesn't do, but as regards various other photo editing apps on the App Store.
Specifically, the question comes up because a number of other photo editing apps (no names mentioned!) claim "raw image support", or that they use "iOS's raw image support". However, when buyers actually try to use these apps to edit raw files, they find that there are far fewer pixels than the raw image.
Here's what's happening: what these apps actually mean by "raw image support" is that they have the ability to extract the JPEG preview image in the raw file. Mostly, they do so via the built-in iOS functions. The JPEG preview image can be full size for some cameras, but for most images its a fraction of the full size image. The ability to extract a JPEG preview is not the same as the ability to actually process the raw data in a raw image into a full size image! So beware.
Right now, as at April 2012, so far as I'm aware, there are only two photo editing apps that can really process the raw data in raw image files on the iPad:
- PhotoRaw (and its free try-before-you-buy version, PhotoRaw Lite). Which is my app.
- piRAWnha

I just came across something really useful for those that use M lenses on non-Leica cameras. One of the problems you run into is that you can't focus a close as you'd like. Well, now there's a solution for that - the Hawk’s Factory Close Focus Adapter. These's a review here by JB Hildebrand. Sadly, the adapter doesn't seem to be in stock right now, but hopefully will be back soon.0
